A plant-based soap is made of plant extracts, oils, and essential oil fragrances. Conventional bars of soap often use synthetic or chemical-based dyes, fragrances, and ingredients.

In our opinion, this is a big YES. The key function of a bar of soap is to lather and cleanse. Our plant-based soap achieves this through extracts of olive and coconut rather than sulfates or lye (usually labeled as sodium hydroxide). Why use plant-based? It’s effective as cleansing, is more gentle with your skin, and hydrating, the runoff of water after cleansing is cleaner for the environment.

There are a number of ways to make soap, plant-based really just refers to the ingredients you are using to make your bar. We work with a family-owned factory to create our triple-milled plant-based bars of soap. Triple-milling, or French milling, is a process that creates a very firm, lasting, uniform bar of soap that won’t get gummy and lose its potency of fragrance of sudysing ability like some hand-made bars are prone to. It’s also less prone to cracking and drying out. After the soap ingredients are mixed, they get passed through smooth stainless steel rollers. Then, it is pushed through three metal mesh screens (hence the triple milling name). It looks like pushing playdough through a press in a way, and this process forces out excess water, creating that sturdy, good-looking bar of soap at the other end.

Olive Oil is a timeless ingredient for soap-making. It helps create a firmer soap with a rich, gentle lather. Olive oil acts as an antioxidant-rich emollient, offering major hydration. The phytosterol compounds promote microcirculation and help soften skin while cleansing.
