How Often Should I Wash My Hair?

The idea of going longer between washes & a focus on scalp health were the two pillars of creating this non-toxic hair line. I am thrilled to introduce my long-time friend and hairstylist, Sondra Tillman, to answer this question:

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WASH MY HAIR?

“Your hair will tell you. But the key is what you’re using. Start by stretching from daily to every other day, or from a few times a week to just once or twice. Gradually stretch the time and see."

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

"Overwashing can actually create imbalances. I see so many clients with oily roots and very dry ends. Stretching the time between washes can help preserve your natural oils, which keep the hair strong and shiny, protect color from fading, and support scalp balance by avoiding over-stripping."

THE ROUTINE
"Use products free of major offenders: parabens, sulfates, silicones, fragrance, dyes. Gently shampoo the roots only, apply lightly to the ends, and then condition the mid-lengths and ends while keeping the conditioner off the scalp. This helps balance the scalp, protects the ends, and sets you up for ultimate hair health."

When it comes to how often to wash your hair, I always say your hair will tell you. The key is what you’re using. Clean shampoos and conditioners actually support your scalp and hair in a way that allows you to go longer between washes, without the buildup or irritation that many off-the-shelf products cause. If you’re trying to stretch from daily to every other day, or from a few times a week to just once or twice, it’s all about listening to your scalp and working with products that keep your hair balanced and nourished.

Sondra is the best in the biz when it comes to dry cuts and long layers. To make an appointment in LA or OC, message her at @sondratillmanhair.
